Garage Floor & Shop Slab Concrete Rio Rancho NM - New Pours & Replacement

Garage floors and shop slabs in Rio Rancho carry cars, trucks, lifts, tool chests and workbenches, so they need to be flat, strong and finished for the way you'll use them.

New Garage and Workshop Slabs

A new detached garage or shop starts with the slab. HomeGuide notes that most two-car garages are 20 by 20 to 24 by 24 feet, built with reinforced concrete 4 to 6 inches thick, and puts the national 2026 cost of a two-car garage floor at $2,400 to $6,900 installed. The building above usually sets what the slab needs: thickened edges or footings where walls bear, anchor bolt locations, a door opening at the right height, and slope toward the door so melted snow and wash water drain out. Rio Rancho requires a permit for secondary structures of 121 square feet and over, so a new garage or shop building comes with permits and inspections that the slab work has to fit into.

Replacing a Failed Garage Floor

Garage floors fail when the ground underneath settles, when water gets under the slab, or when the original pour was thin. Signs include cracks that keep opening, slabs that have dropped away from the walls or the driveway, and sections that rock when you drive over them. Replacement means saw-cutting, breaking out and hauling off the old floor, fixing the base, and pouring new. Where only a few sections have dropped and the rest is sound, slab leveling can be a cheaper option.

Moisture Under the Slab

For a slab that will be enclosed and used as a shop, office or gym, we place a vapor retarder under the concrete to slow ground moisture coming up through the floor. That matters for coatings, flooring, stored tools and anything sitting directly on the slab.

Finishing for Coatings

If you plan to put down epoxy or another floor coating, tell us at the quote stage. The finish we give the slab, and how it cures, affects how well a coating bonds later. A hard steel-trowel finish is easy to sweep but may need grinding before coating; a lighter finish can save a step. We'll match the finish to your plans.
